Description

This exquisite 1 1 4 inch Haida Bear Bracelet has been hand-carved and hammered in 14 karat gold by Haida artist Derek White. The repoussé (hammered) finish adds a wonderful dimensionality and textured finish to the gold surface.

The Bear Symbol represents strength, family, vitality courage and health. The bear is thoughtful and independent, with little need for fellowship. The bear is also self-contained and strong-willed in nature. A Bear is of great support and comfort to those who crave human company simply for personal reassurance rather than for the simple pleasure of being with friends. He makes lonely periods of life far easier.

In the Haida culture, the Bear is known as “Elder Kinsman” and is treated as a noble guest. Legend says that a First Nations chief’s daughter fell in love with and married a Bear, who happened to be the nephew of the Great Bear Chief.  She gave birth to twin bear cubs and was known as the Bear Mother.

The bracelet is about 7 1 2  inches long, 1 1 4 inches wide, and weighs over 74 grams or 2.62 ounces.
