This is a hand-carved yellow cedar Thunderbird Paddle by Bill Henderson, Kwakwaka´wakw Master Carver. The paddle is deeply carved in yellow cedar and painted in red, yellow, black, and green acrylic.
The Thunderbird Symbol represents power, protection, and strength. He is often seen as the most powerful of all spirits and can also transform into human form by opening his head up like a mask and taking his feathers off as if they were a mere blanket. Under his wings are lightning snakes, which he can use as a tool or weapon.

The size is over 59 inches or 150 centimeters long, up to 9 inches or over 22 centimeters wide, and up to about 1 inch or 2 1 2 centimeters thick.Â
